AS Monaco - Possession
Below is part of a training session from the top French club AS Monaco on possession play.  The complete session appears in the Sep/Oct issue of the WORLD CLASS COACHING magazine.

Possession Drill (25 Minutes)
Four teams are in different colors inside a 40 x 20-yard grid. Three teams keep possession away from the fourth team. The Team 1 may only pass to the Team 2, Team 2 passes only to Team 3 and the Team 3 is only allowed to pass to Team 1.

After four minutes the defending team switches with one of the other three teams. This rotation continues until all of the teams have taken a turn on defense.

Coaching Points
• Look for a pass before receiving the ball

• Movement off the ball

• Quality Passes

• Position of the body when the players receive a pass

• Speed of ball and pass

• Coach counts ‘1,2,3’ and the player should pass
