forward to each issue to see what my colleagues in the coaching ranks are doing.
When I was first getting into collegiate
coaching twenty some years ago, Hubert Vogelsinger told me something that I believe to
this day: "If your goal is to be a great coach, you must be a thief. You must be
willing to read about, watch, and listen to other great coaches and steal their ideas.
Adapt the things you have stolen to your style and you will be on your way." I have
followed Hubert’s advice these many years and have always been thankful to him for
this valuable lesson. You are helping our coaching community by being a great
"fence" for the thoughts, exercises, and tactics of the best coaches in the
world.
It is when we think we have all the answers
that we quit growing and learning. When that happens, it’s time to quit. Your
magazine provides constant stimulation of different ideas. Keep up the good work. I’m
sure that the Saint Louis University team will be using some of the ideas I steal from

U.S. Soccer and its coaching department is a great believer in the
continuing education of our coaches. Soccer is a sport that is constantly evolving.
Tactics change, new ideas are tried, teams constantly alter their playing formations, etc.
That is why our licensing system necessitates coaches attending coaching courses,
