LEVEL 2:
PRACTICAL
TOPIC - CLOSE RANGE FINISHING

This is a Level 2
session on close range finishing that was submitted by Murph.
Warm-up:
Group warm-up to
raise heart rate from resting by jogging, angled runs, high knees, heel
flicks, Stretching calf hamstrings quads and groin.
Organisation:
- Working to area
6 yrd box x 20 yrds x 4 grids
- 2 goals with
grids either side
- Plenty of
footballs
- 12 players
including 4 keepers


Progression:
Play starts with
partners passing & setting each other in for shooting opportunities.
Setter should be following up to take rebounds. Various moves should be
tried as diagram shows.
Introduce passive
defender (looking for sharper turns and movement from players)
Introduce active
defender (looking for quick play between striker and setter)
Coaching Points:
Looking for good
delivery from setting players, movement from front players, high tempo,
accuracy when finishing, reaction to rebounds.

Cool Down:
Light rhythmical
activity which helps to maintain blood flow and assist the removal of

imparting instruction, take my time and deliver clearly,
- Take on board
